Canvas not working? Try these fixes
- Learning platforms often go down near assignment deadlines. Take a screenshot showing the error, with the time, for your teacher.
- If your school uses its own address (like school.instructure.com), it may be down even when the main site is up.
- Save your work locally before submitting so you don't lose it if the upload fails.
- Try another device or network, for example mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.
- Hard-refresh the page (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R) or open it in a private window.
- Flush your DNS cache, or switch your DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
- Turn off your VPN, ad blocker or other browser extensions and try again.
Questions
Is Canvas down right now?
We checked Canvas just now and it was up. The server answered with HTTP 302 in 250 ms.
Why is Canvas not working for me?
If our check shows Canvas is up, the problem is most likely on your side: your network, DNS, browser extensions, or an outdated app. Try the steps above. If it shows down, the problem is on Canvas's end and you'll need to wait for them to fix it.
How often do you check Canvas?
Every 10 minutes, around the clock. Failed checks are retried once before they're recorded, and we keep 30 days of history.
Where do your checks come from?
From a single server in a data center. A site can be down in one region and up in another, so an outage that only affects some countries may not show up here.
