Hacker News not working? Try these fixes
- Breaking news causes traffic spikes; a slow site usually recovers within minutes.
- If a news site only fails behind a paywall, sign out and back in to refresh your subscription.
- Try another device or network, for example mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.
- Hard-refresh the page (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R) or open it in a private window.
- Flush your DNS cache, or switch your DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
- Turn off your VPN, ad blocker or other browser extensions and try again.
Questions
Is Hacker News down right now?
We checked Hacker News just now and it was up. The server answered with HTTP 200 in 259 ms.
Why is Hacker News not working for me?
If our check shows Hacker News is up, the problem is most likely on your side: your network, DNS, browser extensions, or an outdated app. Try the steps above. If it shows down, the problem is on Hacker News's end and you'll need to wait for them to fix it.
How often do you check Hacker News?
Every 10 minutes, around the clock. Failed checks are retried once before they're recorded, and we keep 30 days of history.
Where do your checks come from?
From a single server in a data center. A site can be down in one region and up in another, so an outage that only affects some countries may not show up here.
